How to install ICQ99a
Crack
This is a great little patch for ICQ to unhide
the IP-addresses of everyone in your contact list. It will also allow you to add
people to your list without asking for their permission.
ICQ *KNOWS* the IP addresses of all users in your
contact list that it says are ONLINE, but will not show you their IP addresses if they
chose to hide them (done from the ICQ menu, "Security & Privacy" options,
checkbox "Do not publish IP address".
With previous versions of ICQ, there were little
utilities which could show you the IP addresses of online users (ICQ Scout's game,
ICQ IP Sniffer, etc.) Now with ICQ 99a, you'd have to run a packet sniffer, firewall, or
some other winsock debugging app, as those utils give invalid IP addresses when used on
ICQ99a.
Therefore, this ICQ patch should prove even MORE useful
for people with ICQ ICQ99a, than it was for older versions.
The changes in ICQ 99a are so many, that it had to
TOTALLY re-designed. That's why there're two versions now, the new one for ICQ99a and
another for all versions before that.
PLEASE NOTE: ICQ does not always know
the last IP address of OFFLINE users, and will still show them as N\A, even with the
patch.
Installation Notes:
There are two patchers included in the zip file.
ICQcrk.exe is for all (win32) versions of ICQ *PRIOR* to ICQ99a, and ICQ99aC.exe is for
ICQ99a (and maybe future versions as well).
1. Shut down ICQ (important!! Can't patch it while it's
running!)
2. Copy the appropriate patcher into your ICQ
directory.
3. Make a backup of ICQ.exe (optional, but
recommended!)
4. Run ICQ99aC.exe if you have ICQ 99a, or ICQcrk.exe
for previous versions of ICQ.
5. Run ICQ.exe to start it back up, and have fun! :-)
To add someone to your list that requires permission,
hit the Add button in ICQ 99a and enter their ICQ number in the search screen. Double
click on the ICQ user that come up after the search and they're on your list!
I use this when someone adds me (I don't need
permission) and I want to add them. If I come across a permission screen I just hit cancel
and do a search for their ICQ number and add them. When they ask me how I did it, I tell
them I'm good. :-)
Troubleshooting:
These patches employ advanced heuristic (scanning)
techniques, to be compatible with numerous versions of ICQ. They do not work
instantaneous, so give 'em some time.. like a minute or two...you should NOT see massive
hard drive access or anything like that, though.
The speed of both versions has been improved
considerably, so on many systems they should work in under 5 seconds, assuming you've got
a compatible version of ICQ.exe (takes longer to determine if there is absolutely no way
for the patch to figure out what to change).
MAKE SURE you use the right version of
the patch (read Installation Notes, above)
If using a version of Windows that does not have the
IBM aka OEM character set (such as some oriental versions of Windows), you may see a blank
screen when you run either patch. If this occurs, try rebooting into MS-DOS, and run it
from normal MS-DOS. This suggestion solved the problem for one Japanese guy who told me of
that problem.
