They say everything is done big in Las Vegas. So it's
fitting that Comdex is held there. After all, it is the biggest computer trade show in
North America, with over 1 million square feet of displays. This was The Tech Zone's first
Comdex and it prove to be quite an experience, for us as well as the people who met us.
We flew in on Sunday night at around 11PM and decided
to walk up and down the strip. That took about 2 hours to do. On Monday we tried to find
where the registration office for the media was. Comdex is kinda intimidating for the
first timer. It's so big and so easy to get lost that we spent the entire first day just
trying to find things.
One nice thing about going to Comdex as the media is
that most things are provided for you totally free. Gateway made a media area available at
each of the two convention centers with about 20 computers all connected to the net so I
can make updates and check my email. They also provided a media bus to shuttle us between
the convention centers and our hotel.
Next door to the media area is the media lounge
provided by Computer Associates where you can sit back and relax. Computer Associates also
made breakfast and lunch available. Talk about the royal treatment. Media rules!
The first thing I did was check comdexparty.com. This
list all the parties happening at Comdex. Hey, I know where my priorities are! :-) After
noting all the parties we will be attending, we headed off into the convention area to
take in the sights and sounds that is Comdex.
